The world is abuzz with anticipation this morning. They are anxiously awaiting Tiger Woods to read a prepared statement and head back to rehab. We are full of questions--Will the wife show up? Is Tiger golfing next week? Will he apologize?

Am I the only one who won't be glued to the screen? Am I the only one who doesn't care in the least about his statement? Let's put this thing into perspective--Tiger didn't cheat on US. Tiger didn't cheat WITH us. Therefore, Tiger doesn't owe US anything.

We seem to have a weird sense of entitlement when it comes to celebrities. We think that we should be privy to every detail of their lives. Why? Why? Tiger is an athlete. We watch him on television. We may choose to see him golf in person. But, after the clubs are put away, what more does he owe us? What does his offense have to do with golf? What part of it affected his fans? Why is he not entitled to a personal life? Is anyone available to take me to lunch at 11am est today?

By the way, don't forget to vote for me in the Sun Sentinel's Best of Blogs awards. I'm currently in second place in the Personal category. Here's the link. You can vote once per day until March 1st.
The past couple weeks have been a blur. What an experience! I've done more in the past week than I thought was humanly possible. I've also learned a few lessons:

  • I don't do well on just a few hours sleep
  • I'm quite good at elbowing for position on red carpets
  • If you haven't eaten in 12 hours, Chile Limon Flavored Cheetos taste amazing
  • Stilettos are over rated
  • $55 for Friday night parking on South Beach doesn't include valet--only park and lock
  • Cj Jeans by Cookie Johnson are my new favorite thing
  • Super Bowl Week swag is the same as anytime else
  • Interstate 95 Road Rangers really do exist
  • Your car really won't run out of gas when the "miles to empty" meter reaches 0
  • Kim Kardashian really is gorgeous
  • Prescriptives 24 Hour Longwear Mascara will last for 26 hours
  • a $10mill home on Miami Beach will only get you 8 bedrooms and 10 baths
  • Wendy's Bacon & Blue burger is my next new favorite thing
  • Always have an extra SD card on hand

That's all that I can think of now. What did you learn this week?

Do you know this guy? This is the recently graduated quarterback of the University of Florida football team. His name is Tim Tebow. However, this is NOT a post about football, but rather about eye black, religious beliefs, and constitutional freedoms.

You see, he chose to play football each week with a Scripture written in his eye black. And a lot of folks got angry. Apparently, he's a very conservative Christian guy and rather than wear his faith on his sleeve, he wears it under his eyes. And it earns him a lot of flack.

Why is that? We accept far more from others. Have you seen the permanent tattoos of guys like Tommy Lee or Allen Iverson or David Beckham? Terrelle Pryor used his eye black to show support for his friend, "Vick." Why can't Tim give glory to God? What's up with that?

Again, this is NOT about football. If you are led to comment on his on field performance, his record, his team, his rivals, etc., it means that you don't comprehend well, since you missed the entire point.

It's this time of the year, that I miss being up north. This is the time of year when there are hay rides to go on, pumpkin patches to visit, and jackets to be warm.

But nooooooo--not here. Here, there's the beach to visit, air conditioners to be turned on, and shorts to be worn. Not to mention that 80 degree temps and going to football games simply do NOT go together.

What's going on in your hood? What kind of fall activities do you all have? TRADE YA!!!

About a month ago, my cousin called me all excited about Fantasy Football. She asked if my husband and I would join the league that her husband was creating. I agreed, noting that neither of us knew anything about FF. She didn't either, but her husband has done it and loved it. He sent the email invitations and we created our teams.

Initially, I asked what I was supposed to do. She said to just wait for the draft. The draft came. I was assigned players. I asked what I was supposed to do next. She said that he would send out an email with instructions. He didn't. The season started. The first week I came in second. My brother came in first. He sent out an email gloating and saying that we weren't worthy opponents. I sent one back saying I had no clue what I was supposed to be doing.

So, now it's the end of the second week. I just checked and I'm now in first place--WOO HOO! But again, I haven't done anything. Can someone out there please explain to me how to implement strategy? There HAS to be more to it than being assigned players and waiting for game scores. I have HEARD of trades, and bye weeks, etc. but I have NO idea how these processes work. So please help me. Again, I understand the game of football. What i need is a quick tutorial in fantasy football. I need to preserve my first place status.

As many of you know, I am from Washington, DC. Today, on his 68th birthday, I'd like to honor one of my hometown heroes--John Thompson. John is the former basketball coach of Georgetown University. He was the first Black coach to win a collegiate sports championship in 1984. He also coached the United States basketball team in the 1988 Olympics.

Mr Thompson is a native Washingtonian, as well. He went off to the NBA, and came back to coach high school basketball. He did so well, that he was approached by Georgetown University to coach college level ball. He was an amazing coach and under his tutelage, many pro basketball players got their foundation. He is responsible for launching the careers of such players as Sleepy Floyd, Allen Iverson, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutumbo, and Pat Ewing. Twenty six of his players went on to be drafted by the NBA, including 8 in the first round.

He was also a very controversial figure. John preached education and demanded that his players, often from underprivileged families, take advantage of the Georgetown academic system. He talked most players out of entering the Draft before graduating. He often had profanity filled tirades, but he cared about his kids. And it showed.

Outside of DC, John was often criticized, but around town, he was and still is a hero. Happy 68th, Coach!

Today, I salute my Dad. He's a lot of things--a dad, grand dad, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, Vietnam Vet, cancer survivor, sports fanatic, lover of fine foods and music. I love him immensely. I wouldn't trade him for the world. He's simply the best. And I know the feeling is mutual. Happy Fathers Day, Dad!

I can't be with him today, but he is ALWAYS in my heart. What about you? Whether he's still with you or not, how will you honor him today?

I have a challenge for you today. If you had to bury a time capsule that represented your life TODAY, what would you put in it. This means that 100 years from now, someone would open it and, from the 10 items you've included, they should be able to figure out what your life was like.

I've been thinking about what I would bury. Here are my 10 items, in no particular order:

  1. my laptop
  2. a picture of my family
  3. my business card
  4. my Kindle
  5. my Blackberry
  6. paint swatches, all in the color pink
  7. my Bible
  8. Fairytale Brownies
  9. iron pills
  10. a thumb drive with my photo albums on them

Looking at this, I wonder what conclusions one would draw from those items. Is this really who I am--a geek? Apink, iron deficient, Christian, gadget geek? Is that who I am? Does anything speak to the fact that I'm from Washington, DC? Would you gather that I live in South Florida? Would you know that I love baseball?

This is harder than I thought. Let me work on my list some more. In the meantime, what 10 things would represent your life today--not yesterday, not tomorrow, but who you are right now. Interesting stuff...

My son, who is 12, has been following the NBA playoffs. He was rooting hard for Lebron and the Cavaliers. Of course, the Cavs lost big and were eliminated. As frustrated as he was with the loss, he was a lot more disappointed by the seemingly "sore loser" actions of Lebron.

While confetti rained down in Amway Arena, his teammates and Cavs' staff sought out the Orlando Magic and congratulated them on the advancement to the Finals. Where was Lebron? Well, when the final seconds ticked down, Lebron put on his poker face and left the floor. Later, when the press conference started, Lebron was a no-show, having chosen to don his headphones and leave the arena. My son was disappointed in a major way.

Now my son certainly understands losing and the feeling of defeat. You see, basketball is his favorite sport. He loves it. He gets to school an hour early everyday and plays basketball. He plays with his friends every afternoon. But, even with all of that practice, he's simply not that great at basketball. But he hasn't given up b-ball. In fact, he tries out for his middle school team every year, and has never made it. He hasn't given up. He says that he simply loves playing. But seldom is he on the winning team. He's used to it and it hasn't deterred him from participating. It's important to him, though, to congratulate his friends when they win. And it's important for him to encourage those friends that seem to have "the gift." Why shouldn't he? It's how sports are supposed to be played.

He knows that he may never be a great player and he's okay with that. Very few kids who love basketball actually grow up to play professionally. However, the lessons of sports should stay with them throughout their lives. The lessons of respect, honor, sportsmanship, etc. If it's all good when you win Rookie of the Year and/or MVP, then it has to be equally as good when your team doesn't play well enough to advance to the Finals. I hope this was just an isolated slip for Lebron, and that it doesn't become habit. I can say, however, that while my son is definitely still a Cavs fan, he's a bit disenchanted with Lebron.

Who would have thought that a 3 year old would have dominated the news late yesterday? Yep, 3 year old Rachel Alexandra captured the Preakness, the second jewel in the Triple Crown of horse racing. A female hasn't won that race in 85 years.

She was told that she couldn't win against male horses. It was said that her in the race would be like sending a high school athlete to play against the pros. The horse racing world proclaimed that she had no business there. But her jockey, Calvin Burrell, had this to say--"She has so much determination. When you look this filly in the eyes, it's unbelievable."

I believe in women. I believe that a woman, or for that matter, ANY person, can do anything that they set their minds to, given training and hard work towards the goal. Don't forget to encourage someone today, especially a young girl/woman. One of my favorite quotes goes like this--"Here's to good women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them." I don't know who wrote it, but me likey!!!

Last week, longtime FOJ Emmanuel, sent me a note about EventChaser (part of the Razorgator family), saying he thought that it was something that I might be interested in. I checked it out and was invited to become an Official EventChaser. It seems like a pretty cool setup.

In exchange for blogging about the venue and the event, along with providing pictures, they will provide me tickets for plays, sporting events (including MLB tickets), concerts, etc. I'm excited about it. My first EventChaser experience is coming up next week. I won't reveal much, the post will appear next Saturday.

If you have a blog, you might want to check it out. It was a very simple process to get started. I can't wait to get to ______ next week to see______. hehehehehe

While the rest of my friends are lamenting the loss of professional football for the next few months, and cheering the race to the playoffs in professional basketball, I have been silently biding my time. And finally, it's here-Baseball Season!

I love baseball. It is absolutely my favorite professional sport. My friends say it's boring and slow and long, but I say that there is nothing more American than baseball, except, of course, hotdogs and apple pie. And I'm looking forward to opening day tomorrow--my hometown team, The Washington Nationals, are playing my current town team, The Florida Marlins. I'm not sure who even to cheer for. Then, after opening day, many games to follow. My fascination will run until the World Series this fall.

What about you guys? Any baseball lovers? Wanna wager any friendly bets? Whose your team? Whose your favorite player?

Here in South Florida, a lot of business is conducted during rounds of golf. The Good Ole Boy Network is alive and well. As a professional woman that doesn't golf, it's sometimes hard to compete with those relationships cemented on the greens.

A lot times, price and service doesn't even factor in. It's more like, "well, my wife's brother sells that, so I have to buy from him" or "my boss has part ownership of XYZ company, so we buy from them." Those kinds of parameters are hard to get around. In fact, it's best to walk away from them and move on to someone else.

Recently, I've been thinking of taking up golf, though walking/riding over a course of 18 holes in order to hit the little ball into the little hole holds absolutely no interest for me. But with the economy taking a dive and sales getting harder to come by, I may need to become the Ole Girl in the Ole Boys Network.
