For the last few weeks, I've been craving french fries doused with malt vinegar. And, I confess, I've given in to the temptation, more than once. If you've never had them, trust me when I say that it's good eating.

Anyhow, I mentioned it to a couple folks and they had never heard of the fries/vinegar combination. Some even questioned how the two tastes could possibly interact in a good way. I'll admit it, it may not sound tasty, but heck, there are a lot of things that don't sound tasty and actually are.

I mean really--whoever thought of bleu cheese on a burger? For that matter, who thought of bleu cheese, PERIOD? And who invented turducken? Were they drunk??

So, here's my question. What quirky things do you eat--ketchup on eggs? Mayo AND mustard on a sandwich? Tell me some of your weird combinations of food. I may try some..

Your comments--priceless!!

I LOVE malt vinegar on fries, thanks to Five Guys. For me ketchup on a burger is VERBOTEN, so I will do mustard and mayo. If I am cooking the burger myself, it will be country-style dijon mustard and mayo. You can add a little minced garlic to the mayo to spruce it up a bit. Excuse me while I wipe my mouth.

I very rarely use black pepper when cooking--I usually use chili powder with a little cumin. Sometimes it will be a little cayenne with the chili powder. I don't overdo it--just a little heat is enough.

Oh, lamb pizza is the bomb! Get some ground lamb, a Boboli crust, oregano, basil, garlic, rosemary, thyme, sage, onion powder, savory and marjoram, the cheese of your choice, some baby bella mushrooms, and your own homemade pizza sauce (give it a whirl!) and you have some GOOD eating.

I also fry chicken with thyme, rosemary, and oregano, in addition to a pinch of salt and the aforementioned chili powder. The Colonel ain't got nothing on me!

    Bon apetit!

  2. I'll trust you when you say fries and vinegar is good, but I will have to pass on this. LOL

I don't eat many things out of the ordinary....
    Ummmm

I like apples with peanut butter and boiled eggs with salt. I can eat hummus on any vegetable or cracker.

I think bleu cheese is awesome on wings!

My fiance makes turkey sandwhiches with ketchup, mayo, and mustard.

  3. Okay, love potato chips on tuna fish sandwiches. Don't know why, but very tasty.

Yes I have strange combinations as well: ketchup on my tacos, grape jelly on my french toast, and ketchup on my fish sticks/sandwiches!

Ok, what the heck is turducken? I don't like the flavor of vinegar at all, so fries and vinegar makes me make a funny face when i think about it. However, i have been dipping fries into bleu cheese dressing since i was in high school and that is really the only way i like them. I always do mayo and mustard together, cept on tuna. I have one recipe i use catsup in other than that i don't like it. i like ginger ale with turkey sammiches and i like turkey sammiches with cranberry sauce on them. oh and i like banana popsicles w/hostess cupcakes!

I love french fries with malt vinegar..... oh so good takes me back to England.....

I also like turducken turkey with duck and chicken stuffed inside, however, I like to do my own version.

I also like to replace lettuce with spinach and cucumbers for pickles on sandwiches - because cucumber slices don't have the salt contents as pickles and spinach is healthier then iceberg lettuce.

I also like to make my own dressings, hummus and dips - I take items and combine them....

apple, walnuts, basil, oil and vinegar whipped into a dressing - oh so good ...my mother tried it on pork chops said it is the bomb sauce.

My list could go on and on - I say experiment with your tastebuds, family and friends - you'd be surprised what you can come up with.

Hello... arrived at your blog via Crazy Shenanigans comment page. I like all of your pink!

I personally don't think the vinegar combo is strange at all, aren't most fries doused with salt? Kind of the same thing. I'm a sucker for putting the vinegar on my fish when I order fish & chips.

Nothing too strange to report from me... over easy egg copped up on top of hashbrowns and drown in ketchup. Oh, and when I have cheese on my burger I like it cold and not melted.

I love sea salt and vinegar chips so it stands to reason that I'd probably like vinegar on fries. Now that you've planted the seed, I'll probably start having cravings for it. Have you ever tried ranch dressing and fries? Yum...

Here's my unusual combo...coleslaw AND mustard atop a beef hot dog. I swear it's yummy!

  11. have you heard of Burger King's Cheesy tots? Well I was eating those one days and for dessert I was going to eat one of those one serving portion cups of Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream. Well I accidently knocked a cheesy tot into and OMG a new food was born!!! Try it!!!

I've tried fries w/vinegar and didn't get it, going to get some malt vinegar to see the difference. Do you dunk the fries or sprinkle the vinegar? I'm just starting to like ketchup on stuff, dipping the fry is a must to maintain crunchiness.hmm odd food combinations hard to say but I can tell you what I don't understand..coleslaw, fries and chips on sandwiches..what is that about? cocktail sauce blah give me tartar! The last few years I learned to tolerate all my food on the same plate! progress in da works
