Ok, so it happened again. And THIS time, it happened on my watch. Let me explain--Years ago, when I moved here to South Florida, there was talk of snow flurries in Miami back in the '70s. I searched high and low and couldn't find ANYONE who saw it or even knew anyone else that saw it. I chalked it up to urban myth.

Then, last night, the late night news reported snow flurries in a couple of communities. Of course, all of the stations ran out into those communities and none were able to come up with a photograph or video. In this age of camera phones and portable video cams, NOBODY caught it? NOBODY?

What about the person that reported it in the first place? Wouldn't THEY have recorded it in some way? It just doesn't add up to me. Something's rotten in the cotton...

When I was a kid, I would love to see newly fallen snow. It was so pretty, untouched. Later, when cars started driving on it and folks started walking on it, it was so pretty anymore. It became yucky.

There's another thing that I'm reminded of when it snows. Everytime I see snow, even on television, I think about it. When I was young, my Mom would act strange when it snowed, even when they were only calling for a dusting. She used to stand at the window and fret. She would look so sad.

Once, I asked why she looked so sad everytime it snowed. She replied, "I'm just thinking about all the people who have no place to go." That's always stuck with me. I was looking at the beauty of it, from my warm, cozy home--with food in the cabinets. Someone else was looking at it close up, from their sleeping spot on the street. Ain't it funny how 2 folks can look at the same thing and the meaning it totally different for them both?

It's this time of the year, that I miss being up north. This is the time of year when there are hay rides to go on, pumpkin patches to visit, and jackets to be warm.

But nooooooo--not here. Here, there's the beach to visit, air conditioners to be turned on, and shorts to be worn. Not to mention that 80 degree temps and going to football games simply do NOT go together.

What's going on in your hood? What kind of fall activities do you all have? TRADE YA!!!

I post daily. So that you don't miss any of my randomness, you might want to subscribe by email.

I'm jealous of those folks on television that predict the weather. How come they are hardly ever right and get to keep their jobs? Why do we even need weather folks? What would happen if we didn't have them.

Right now, we listen to the weather report and take a chance on whether it's right. If I take my umbrella, it doesn't rain. If I don't, it pours. If we didnt have a weather report, we'd take that same chance. What's the difference?

From now on, I'm not listening to the weather. I'm going to use the time that the weather report is on to..to...to do something else. Something worthwhile. Like exercise. That's it. I will hit the MUTE button and exercise while the weather is on. Crunches. No--push ups. No--jumping jacks. Yes, I will do jumping jacks with my back turned to the television. That's the ticket. And, the number of them that I've done before I collapse will determine if it's going to rain. If I fall out on 3, which is likely, I will take my umbrella, because 3 is an odd number. If I come to and last number I remember is 4, which is even, I'll leave it at home. Same odds...

So, after months and months of drought like conditions, the rainy season has arrived. Supposedly the rain will make everything grow.

So far, the only thing that has grown is me. I've grown moody. I don't like to get up when it's dreary. YUCK!

I also don't like when the baseball game has a rain delay--ESPECIALLY on the RARE occasion when the Marlins are winning! YUCK!

Wait, something else is growing. My usually brown lawn has sprouted tall weeds. YUCK!!!!!

I live in Broward County, Florida. We are in the dry season of the year. For the next few months, rain is scarce and we are under severe water restrictions. Only twice a week, during set hours can you water your lawn. Because of this, my lawn looks terrible. There are awful dry patches. But I take the law seriously, and don't water during times that I shouldn't (Even though we had an underground well that our sprinkler system is attached to).

Imagine how I felt last weekend, when I took a good look at the neighborhood last weekend. Ours is the ONLY lawn on the block, and one of very few in the neighborhood that has brown grass. Most of the homes have lush, green lawns and colorful flowers in the gardens. How could that be? We are under water restrictions. Certainly they are not watering daily, as their lawns suggest, are they? Are we the only family abiding by the law? Should I just start watering as well? I really would like nice grass too, but I'd much rather have drinking water and water for cooking, bathing and laundry.

Well, since then, I've really started paying attention. Yesterday the house next door had their sprinkers on for at least 2 hours after I got home and today, the nice lady across the street was outside watering hers by hand, using a hose. Now suppose our drinking water supply is diminished before the start of the rainy season in June. Will it have been worth it to have a nice lawn?
